Manchester City could pull off an audacious £14 million deal for Brazil's goalscoring hero Afonso Alves. The Heerenveen striker has attracted the interest of UK's Middlesbrough FC and Turkish side Fenerbahçe as well but was due to sign for AZ Alkmaar on Friday but the deal collapsed at the last minute. Alves who scored 35 goals in 31 games is desperate to play in the premiership to keep a place in the Brazil squad. Eriksson is also reportedly looking at Bayern Munich striker Lukas Podolski. The City boss could land the 22-year-old on a loan deal with the option of a possible permanent move in the summer. The Guardian has reported that Lyon's Fred is Erikkson's top priority.
