November 1st 2007 - Alves to Manchester City
According to the Mirror, Manchester City boss Sven-Goran Eriksson is set for an opening bid of £9million for Heerenveen's prolific goal-scorer Afonso Alves. The Citizens are believed to be looking to sign top-class players and a striker is apparently their priority after a serious knee injury ruled out summer-signing Valeri Bojinov for most of the season.
The 26-year-old Brazilian goal machine, who was linked with Middlesbrough in summer, is making waves with his tremendous record for the Dutch side. He started the season with a bang as only in his second outing, he scored an incredible seven goals as his side won 9-0 in the Eredivisie. According to the report, agent Pini Zahavi has made a move on City's behalf for £13m-rated Alves, who has just come back from a personal 'strike' after he was refused a move to AZ Alkmaar.
